Overall, we had a great Sunday and weekend. The trail is dirt and gravel taking you through a grassy area along the Devil’s Backbone, a rock formation sort of resembling a spine, to your left. It was spectacular. Its a spine of hard Dakota sandstone rising about 220 feet above the surrounding valleys that was deposited during. Should get us in good shape that’s for sure! I think we’ll need to do some more incline-hiking and for a longer time before we’re ready to tackle the 14er. We had a great time and got in some much-needed practice. We do a lot of walking around Greeley, but Greeley is really flat, so we were huffing and puffing a little bit as we ascended.
